  • Using your watch, calculate the beats for 30 seconds after finding your pulse. The heart rate will be given by doubling this number. You can even count your heartbeat for 10 seconds and multiply the number by six to find out your heart rate.

The beats of your heart will have to be counted until 60 seconds if you find the rhythm is slightly irregular. When your heart rate continues to be fast and irregular, you should consult your doctor.

What is an average resting heart rate by age?

While you are resting - whether you are sitting or lying down - you can check your resting heart rate. As long as you have not smoked, consumed coffee, or exercised vigorously an hour before. While smoking, having coffee, loud noises, or exercising vigorously, your heart may beat faster for a while, thereby affecting your resting heart rate. Therefore, this may interfere with the correct heart rate.

  1. The heart rate of children (6-15 years old) ranges from 70-100 beats per minute.
