I've pledged to play games and raise funds for kids at my local children's hospital.
So, like many people, I've been sent home from work, with pay, fortunately, and I'm thinking of a way to use all this extra time I have on my hands. Immediately, there's a part of me that is saying: "why lie, I'm gonna use up my hours in my room playing long-form video games."
But, this is in fact a national crisis, and I'm always inclined to want to chip in during a national crisis, so after a lot of hard thinking, this is what I've decided to do: I've teamed up with Extra Life in what is technically my second year (I donated $25 last year).
I'm making a dedication to my Twitch channel (http://twitch.tv/thescarletderby) that, every time I play games, even for idle distraction, I will be streaming, and I've set a goal to raise $5K for Extra Life. Once I reach that goal, I'll start another, and so on and so on, until we get word that our lives can resume as normal. I've optimized my page so that the Extra Life links and goals will always be visible. And I am on a premium account, so I will soon have Extra Life swag I can pass on to my viewers along with some goodies of my own. until we get word that our lives can resume as normal. I've optimized my page so that the Extra Life links and goals will always be visible. And I am on a premium account, so I will soon have Extra Life swag I can do sweepstakes with along with a giveaway or two of my own.
I want to sincerely ask that everyone participates in this: children are at high risk for the Coronavirus, and our children's hospitals struggle just as much with the limitations that we put on our funding as all hospitals do. I'll do everything I can to make it worthwhile
But above all, let's remember to be kind, help each other, and do whatever we can to rise up to any challenge the world puts on us. Be sure to follow me on http://twitch.tv/thescarletderby and my Extra Life page
