Once Upon a baby hare...
When I was a little bunny, I was very sick and almost died. At age 4, after weeks of trying to nail down what was actually wrong, I was diagnosed with Septic Arthritic Hip. Thanks to the help of some wonderful Drs at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, I not only came out of it ok, but as the healthy, happy, ridiculous Hare you know today. After surgery, a lengthy hospital stay, an at home nurse, and a “dolphin box” (IV pack I had to wear constantly that squeaked lol) – I was was back to normal. It was a huge endeavor for my family, and while I, thankfully, don’t remember much about the bad parts, I do remember the care I received and the environment I was in. I was a sick kid, but I was still able to be a kid. I remember playing, riding through the halls with my Mom, and going up to the rooftop play area, where I could also see a full view of home in all it’s sunshine and shorelines.
Baby Hare and her "Dolphin Box"
I was raised by a Mother who never stopped giving, even if it was all she had. As I got older, I continued to want to do something for the hospital that helped my family so much. All Children’s has grown by leaps and bounds since I was a patient, and watching that growth means so very much to me. It has been a personal wish of mine to do something to give back. We watched all the telethons while I was growing up and I had grand plans for doing something to help other kids who are going through what I went through. When I joined The Mommy Gamers’ team, I had no idea that I could choose All Children’s as my hospital, just that I wanted to be a part of a team that was so excited to be a force of good. I am absolutely thrilled that it aligns with a personal goal of my own and am very excited for the upcoming 24 hour stream. I’ll see you all on Nov. 2nd!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, the tip of my crochet hook, and from the big dent in my left hip! Let’s do something good together!
