I've pledged to play games and raise funds for kids at my local children's hospital.
Wow. 12th year!
Many of you know how I've gotten to this point. For those of you who don't, my daughter was born with a very rare neural tube defect called a frontal encephalocele. Basically the bone of her skull did not fully fuse together around her nose and thus she had a protrusion of fluid and brain matter which required many surgeries (brain and plastic) to repair. It painted an uncertain future as far as cognitive abilities that almost 8 years later we're still navigating. The only thing for sure is everyone who sees her brain immediately concludes: "Yup, that is not a normally structured brain. At all." She is an incredible light in our life and anyone who comes in contact with her.
In our experience we became very familiar with our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. We saw not just the extremely high quality of care but we saw all the ways CMN hospitals go above and beyond to make kids feel as comfortable as possible. We've witnessed these benefits first hand as our daughter's surgeries have taken her from infant to toddler to child. It was the last of these when this extra mile effort really touched our hearts the most because there she was, her head in a full wrap bandage, one eye swollen shut and the other just a sliver of an opening. She got a care package and she melted into another world. You would've thought it was a holiday the way she gawked in amazement at the simplest of things in the package and I watched knowing that to her, she was not in a hospital. To her, she did not just come out of full facial plastic surgery. To her, she was just a kid, opening a gift.
So, here we go. Let's do this. Things like this and things with far greater impact are only made possible by your support. All money I raise goes directly towards the hospital that has given us everything.
What we've done together!
To date, in the past 11 years of my participation you have helped me raise over $17,000 for our hospital! That still blows me away. I struggle every year to find the words to express how this feels. 12 years in and words still fail me. THANK YOU!
As always, our marathon event of a full 24 hours of video and tabletop gaming will be streamed on the day of the event. So keep an eye out on our twitch page (twitch.tv/TeamPixelDamage) to see any time we go live!
My heart swells every year. If you're reading this, it's because of you. Thank you. Let's go save some lives.
