WHY I Extra Life:
Two reasons really - One; back in 2002, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta was there for us when our 6 month old daughter needed emergency surgery at 3am. Not only did they take amazing care of our child, but they were there for us; the young, new parents scared out of their minds. We were lucky and able to bring our daughter back home after a week, once again happy and healthy. Five years later our second daughter arrived and had to spend nearly two weeks in the NICU; an experience no parent or family will ever forget. It changes you. Extra Life gives me an opportunity to give back to the hospital as well as support other families in need of the special care of the CMNs.
Two; about ten years ago I started going through my own health issues. I have since been diagnosed with several auto-immune disorders, chronic illnesses, and chronic pain. It keeps me home bound most of the time. While I have lost a lot of freedom and am unable to do many of the things I once loved to do, there are still things I can do. One of which is to fund raise for others who may not be currently able to. Over the past decade I have raised thousands of dollars for March of Dimes (Bikers for Babies) and now am really excited to be a part of Extra Life.
WHAT AM I Up To?
This past year I have expanded on what I do #ForTheKids. I have joined a volunteer group here in Atlanta called "Cosplay Volunteers of Atlanta". We do charity events and hospital visits as princesses and superheroes to bring some joy and sunshine to the kids and their families who are living with various illnesses and injuries. It has been one of the most rewarding things that I have done and I am thrilled to be able to bring my love of cosplay and my love of Extra Life together. My fellow cosplayers and volunteers inspire me every day.
