Team Captain Ottawa Mixer All-Stars Extra Life 2018

Because you amazing people helped me get to $2,000 raised for CHEO, I'm adding two more stretch goals! At $2,250, I will stream through indie horror adventure Gray Dawn in one sitting and at $2,500, I will also stream through the terrifying looking Rise of Insanity in one sitting! I will keep adding stretch goals beyond that and if we somehow hit $3,000, I have a big "in real life" surprise goal. But you gotta' get me to $2,500 to see what it is!

What's extra life?

Extra Life is a yearly marathon where gamers from around the world commit to playing games of all kinds for 24 hours non-stop to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Myself, like many others in Ottawa, play for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, also known as CHEO. I've done 7 24 hour marathons since 2011 and thanks to your incredible generosity, have raised over $11,500 for CHEO so far. Since it's humble beginnings in 2008, Extra Life has raised over $40 million to help sick kids in our community and shown loud and clear, the incredible good gamers can do for the world when we come together.

So what's up this year?

For the last couple of years, I did an awesome 24 hour streamed LAN party from my employer's board room. A couple of months ago, I switched jobs so I'm not doing that this year. Instead, we're doing a smaller 24 hour LAN made up of a bunch of the #MixerOttawa crew from Real Caustic's place! A bunch of us will be streaming (we're actually working on a really cool setup for it) and raising money for CHEO and being the adult children we are the whole time. It's going to be a blast and helping a good cause at the same time.

The LAN party will be on the official Game Day, November 3rd, 2018 and you can watch the whole thing over on my Mixer channel!

We'll be playing all kinds of stuff and there may be chances for viewers to play too, plus I have a ridiculous amount of Steam keys in my giveaway library so we'll set some of those loose on the audience too!

Follow all the participants on Mixer to watch us both during the event and when we do other streams as well:

What about stretch goals?

Oh yes, just like past years, I'm adding stretch goals to my fundraising efforts, where I will commit to playing horror games (which I'm a total weaksauce at) in one sitting each on stream for your sadistic amusement. I've achieved the $1,000 Extra Life gold medal for the last 7 years and I will not be breaking that streak this year! I've found 3 horror games of increasing levels of terror and if we hit the targets, I will play them in one sitting each on stream. Here are this year's goals, with links to trailers:

$1,000 - Transference
$1,500 - Call of Cthulu
$2,000 - The Dark Occult (formerly called The Conjuring House)
$2,250 - Gray Dawn
$2,500 - Rise of Insanity

All of these looks frankly terrifying and watching me cringe my way through horror games on stream is a treat you don't want to miss! Help me hit these goals and it'll be worth the watch, trust me.

how can i help?

You can donate to my campaign right from this page using a credit card or PayPal. No amount is too big or too small. 100% of your donation goes to help CHEO (though you can optionally offer to cover the processing fees as well) and all donations of $10 or more will receive a tax receipt early in 2019 if you provide your mailing address. If you donate during the stream, your donation will be shouted out and if you leave a message with your donation, I'll make sure that's read out too.

If you can't afford to donate or even if you can, please spread this far and wide on your social media feeds and Discords. You can also register to participate in Extra Life this year if you want. Just sign up for free on the web site.

Anyone who lives in Ottawa or knows someone who did has been touched by CHEO and the incredible work they do for sick kids. It's an honour and a privilege to be able to use this hobby we love to do good for such a fantastic institution. Thank you for your support and see you June 9th and 10th!
