Extra Life 2017

DONATE

UPDATE: Wow! Only a few days after setting up my page you've already met my goal. Thank you all so much for the generosity. I've raised my goal and am thrilled at the quick jump out of the gate. #forthekids!

Dear Friends and Family,

This will be the 4th year I'm participating in Extra Life for Kids, and I'm super excited. I love using my favorite hobby to give back to a great cause. If you're familiar with Extra Life or my prior participation, you know the drill. For those of you who might be hearing about this for the first time, welcome!

On Saturday, November 4, from 10am to 10am the following day, November 5, I'll be playing video games for 24 hours and raising money for Rainbow Babies and Children hospital in Cleveland, OH.

Extra Life has been running for several years now and has raised millions of dollars for children's hospitals around the country. If you'd like to help me reach my goal, please consider using the "Donate" button above to donate in any amount you and your budget are comfortable with. It's tax deductible and 100% of the donations go directly to the hospital. If you're unable to donate yourself, that's ok! If you'd like, you can simply share the link to my donation page (extra-life.org/participant/zophar53) on Twitter, Facebook, or wherever you feel will get the message out best. And while the event itself doesn't start for a few weeks, donations are accepted all year, so it's never too early to get started!

I've written before about my personal history and why this charity hits so close to home for me. I have a lot of new friends this year that may not be familiar with my past, so if you want you can check it out here. To make a long-ish story short, I had some pretty severe medical issues when I was born and throughout my childhood. The excellent doctors at the Cleveland Clinic and Rainbow Babies and Children, combined with the amazing care my parents gave me, are the reasons I'm alive today. I literally owe my life to them, and so I figure it's the least I can do to help pay it forward.

It's worth noting that I haven't yet been able to stay up the full 24 hours, but I'm ready to give it my best shot. I have a big, fast, gaming PC this year and more internet bandwith than I've had in the past so I hope to share more streaming footage on my Twitch channel this year. The last time I did this, in 2015, I had a bunch of people playing with me and we did a lot of streaming, but this time it will likely be a solo effort, unless I'm able to wrangle up a special guest or two. We'll see what I can come up with.

So whether you know what this is all about or are learning of it for the first time, I personally thank you for taking the time to look into it, and hope you'll help out either with a donation of your own or by spreading the word. Let's play some great games and help some kids!
