For four of the past five years, I've participated in Extra Life as my way of saying thanks to the Children's Miracle Network Hospital that helped me get well.
I had frequent respiratory infections as a very young child, some of them requiring emergency medical treatment. It was frightening to be so little and not understand all of the big, noisy machines surrounding me. My mother brought me to All Children's Hospital for a chest x-ray and I completely melted down. I was tired, I was sick, and to this day I remember being absolutely convinced that the x-ray machine was going to somehow hurt me. I was gripping onto doorways and screaming and crying, refusing to take another step.
And yet the x-ray technicians didn't get angry or give up. One of them came and took me gently by the arm to show me all of the equipment they'd be using. She promised me that all it would do is take pictures so that they'd know how to make me feel better. It was enough to calm me down so that they could get the x-ray films, and afterwards I was given a little black and white stripey camel with red "x" stitching on the hump for being so brave. ("X-ray Camel" is still floating around my childhood souvenirs.)
The patience and love and dedication shown to me by All Children's Hospital is a major reason that I am able to be here today, over 20 years later. They are just one of the many fabulous Children's Miracle Network Hospitals dedicated to saving the lives of children, and for that I will forever be grateful.
Join me starting on Monday, October 16th for the first of five days of gaming to raise money for All Children's Hospital! I'll be playing Monday through Friday that week from 9 am to 5:00 pm PST -- that works out to an extra 16 hours of gaming -- and streaming my gameplay on my Twitch channel. Come hang out with me in Twitch chat or on my Discord server while I play!
Because I wasn't able to play last year due to work commitments, I'm doubling this year's goal from $500 to $1000. With your help, I know I'll be able to reach it! Please consider donating any amount -- even $5, the price of a fancy drink from Starbucks, is a big help to the kids. Your donation is tax-deductible and many employers will match your donation amount! If you're unable to donate funds, please share the link to my page as much as possible to get the word out, or even think about signing up for Extra Life yourself!
FURTHERMORE: At the $500, I gave away a signed Hearthstone poster -- congratulations to Todd! At $1000, I'll give away a signed Heroes of the Storm 2.0 poster! Follow me on Twitter @bunnyladame and make sure you're in my Twitch channel when it happens!
