Extra Life 2021

What's extra life?

Extra Life is a yearly marathon where gamers from around the world commit to playing games of all kinds for 24 hours non-stop to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Myself, like many others in Ottawa, play for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, also known as CHEO. I've done 12 separate 24 hour marathons since 2011 and thanks to your incredible generosity, have raised just shy of $25,000 for CHEO so far. Since it's humble beginnings in 2008, Extra Life has raised over $70 million to help sick kids in our community and shown loud and clear, the incredible good gamers can do for the world when we come together.

So, what's up this year?

This year is my 11th year in a row of doing Extra Life. Thanks to the unprecedented generosity of you all, we raised over $7,000 for CHEO last year, which is positively insane. I don't know if we'll ever top that but you all have surprised me before so who knows. I can't thank you all enough for the support you have shown both CHEO and my content.

I'm hoping to be able to do another 24 hour stretch this year, potentially focused on more variety titles and games with friends as that's where my content has been going lately. Once I solidify plans more, I'll put them here.

As always, keep your eyes peeled right here and on my Twitter and Discord to find out the latest.

What's this about stretch goals?

For several years now, I've committed to streaming horror games (which I'm a total weaksauce at) if we hit certain fundraising milestones. I've decided to forego setting those up in advance as the number of good horror game releases has slowed recently, plus I've now had to play so many of them that I'm not as easily scared as I used to be, something I never thought I'd say. However, I think we can come up with some interesting ideas as we go and hit certain milestones. For now, here are the remaining horror games I still have to play:

The Exorcist: Legion VR
Maid of Sker
Don't Knock Twice VR
Paranormal Activity VR
Kobold VR

Keep an eye on Twitter and Discord to find out when the next stretch goal stream is happening. And watch this space for any special incentives that get added this year!

how can i help?

You can donate to my campaign right from this page using a credit card or PayPal. 100% of your donation goes to help CHEO and all donations of $10 or more will receive a tax receipt early in 2020 if you provide your mailing address. If you donate during the stream, your donation will be shouted out and if you leave a message with your donation, I'll make sure that's read out too.

To sweeten things further, anyone who donates any amount and e-mails proof to media@pxa.ca qualifies for a free PC game of your choice from my huge and ever-expanding giveaway library, no other strings attached. There's tons of good stuff in there and you're sure to find something you'll love. I also have incentives on the right side where if you donate $100US, you automatically get 10 games of your choice from the library! You can easily get more than $100 worth depending on your picks.

If you can't afford to donate or even if you can, please spread this far and wide on your social media feeds and communities. You can also register to participate in Extra Life this year if you want. Just sign up for free on the web site.

Anyone who lives in Ottawa or knows someone who did has been touched by CHEO and the incredible work they do for sick kids. It's an honour and a privilege to be able to use this hobby we love to do good for such a fantastic institution. Thank you for your support!
