Extra Life is a fantastic yearly event where gamers from around the world play games of all types for 24 hours non-stop to raise money for their local Children's Miracle Network hospitals. It's a great way for us as gamers to take the hobby we all love so much and do some real good by helping out kids in our communities. It's become a big part of my life and something I take a lot of pride in.
Thanks to your incredible generosity, I've raised over $9,000 for CHEO since 2011, $1,500 of which was last year alone! I also ran a team with my colleagues from Grade A last year, which came together in a 24 hour LAN party in our boardroom. We set a goal of $2,000 that we more than doubled, passing $4,500! We're not stopping this year and have set ourselves an ambitious $5,000 minimum goal! It's going to be a challenge but we can get there with your help!
Every year, I have stretch goals for hitting certain fundraising milestones. At $1,000, I have to play through a horror game in one sitting on a live stream, which people always love to watch cause I hate horror games. This year, it's going to be Outlast 2. I played through Outlast and its DLC in 2014 and it's still the scariest game I've ever played by far. It's sequel is supposed to be scarier in every way and it's going to be a riot watching me stream through it.
But as always, there's a bonus objective! If we manage to hit $1,500, I'll also play through Resident Evil 7 and all it's DLC in another single session stream! After misfiring big-time with Resident Evil 6, the 7th main game in this series is supposed to be an excellent return to form and also scary as all get out. What little of it I've seen already makes me cringe. Trust me, you guys are going to want to see me play these!
Of course, this is all being done to help support the incredible work that CHEO does for sick kids in Ottawa. If you grew up in this city or know anyone who does, you know the impact this incredible institution has had here. It can't be overstated how important it is to Ottawa and indeed, to Canadians as a whole. It is my honour and privilege to be able to support them.
If you want to donate to my campaign for this year, you can do so right here. Unfortunately, donations are in US dollars for the moment so keep that in mind. All of the funds go to CHEO and you'll receive a tax receipt early in the new year as well. No amount is too big or too small so any amount you can spare helps. And whether or not you can donate, please consider spreading word on your social media channels of choice.
