Participant Impact Widget

First off, we’re really excited to introduce the Participant Impact Widget to the Extra Life community and to be able to show you the entire life-saving impact you make on kiddos treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals throughout North America. This widget shows you the total impact of your recruitment efforts, both in terms of number of recruits and dollars raised.

Not many people realize this but it’s not just about the money you raise through your personal Extra Life page. Every time you talk about Extra Life online (social media, forums, blogs, emails, etc.) you’re making a difference in the life of a sick or injured kiddo somewhere in this world. Your digital presence has the power to make sure kids everywhere are able to receive the best treatment available at their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital – regardless of their ability to pay.

What exactly is the Participant Impact Widget?

The Participant Impact Widget shows you the grand total of how much money your actions have raised for kids treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. It shows you how much money you have raised + the money your recruits have raised + the money that their recruits have raised (to the tenth degree). If that confused you, maybe the picture below will help:

How does the widget track who you recruited?

Great question! There are various ways that DonorDrive determines who recruited whom. To help explain them, let us lay out some scenarios where “Mike” is the person talking to people about Extra Life online:

1.    Mike sends an email to Liz via the e-mail tool in his Extra Life profile. Liz visits the Extra Life website and registers for Extra Life (*Note, Liz can click around and view other participant pages and Mike will still receive credit for recruiting Liz).

2.    Liz sees a link to Mike’s fundraising page anywhere on the interwebs (Facebook, Mike’s blog, etc.). Liz visits Mike’s page and then registers for Extra Life (*Note, Liz can click around and view other participant pages and Mike will still receive credit for recruiting Liz).

3.    Liz visits the Extra Life website, not by clicking a link from Mike – but she views his page and then registers. This is the same scenario as #2 and Mike would still receive credit for recruiting Liz.

4.    Mike is a Team Captain and Liz views his team’s page first. Regardless of what Liz does later, Mike will still receive credit for recruiting Liz.

To summarize – an invite email sent via the email tool in your Extra Life profile “sticks” and trumps all other methods of tracking recruited participants.  When no invite email is sent, the first Team or Individual fundraising page viewed determines who gets credit for that recruit.

Not everyone is a recruit!

Not everyone is considered a recruit. For example, if Liz visits the Extra Life home page on her own and registers without viewing an team or individual fundraising page, nobody receives credit for recruiting Liz.  However, if Liz joins a team, the Team Captain will be considered the recruiter.
